Artist Statement

My art is mostly abstract expressionism drawn from an organic foundation. I paint meditatively, and with passion, allowing an interaction to occur between myself and images emerging. I enjoy playing and
exploring intriguing lines and shapes, the shifting patterns of light and shadows on surfaces. Color for me is always a composite of diverse hues, as the impressionists showed us, blending, separating, overlapping, all emerging from the original source of light.  All things in this universe are related and connected and flow into and out of each other.

At the age of 82, I am finally in my happy place, painting in a medium and a style that is nonjudgmental and full of possibilities. Fluidity is one of the dominant characteristics of my work, however, at times, I feel the need to create a painting of a remembered or imagined landscape which allows me to work with space, place, and geologic time. For the most part, I strive to make my art spontaneous, open to others' interpretations, so the viewer can enter the picture as well, rather than being “told” what to see.  Together - as distinct individuals - through art, we participate in the intense experience of the "now" of existence.
